  • Once you have passed both units, NEBOSH issues your International General Certificate, which is normally dispatched to us within 40 working days after your final successful result. We will contact you immediately when your certificate is available for collection or delivery.

Your final grade is determined by your IG1 score:

The NEBOSH International General Certificate is assessed through two units, designed to test both your understanding of health and safety and your ability to apply it in real workplace situations.

IG1 – Open Book Examination (OBE)

  • You receive a 24-hour window to complete and submit your exam.
  • The exam is based on a realistic workplace scenario with structured questions.
  • Designed to assess your ability to apply health and safety knowledge in practical situations.
  • Pass Mark: Provisional pass mark for IG1 is 45%
  • A real workplace risk assessment project carried out in your own workplace or a chosen environment.

  • You must identify hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend effective control measures, supported by a clear action plan.

  • Marked as Pass / Refer based on NEBOSH criteria.

  • Estimated completion time: approximately 3 hours.

 IG2 Submission Timeline

  • A real workplace risk assessment project carried out in your own workplace or a chosen environment.
  • You must identify hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend effective control measures, supported by a clear action plan.
  • Marked as Pass / Refer based on NEBOSH criteria.
  • Estimated completion time: approximately 3 hours.
  • The IG2 risk assessment project is submitted 1 week to 10 days after the submission of your IG1 exam.
  • This allows sufficient time for learners to prepare, complete workplace observations, and meet NEBOSH quality standards.

Closing Interview (Mandatory – IG1 Only)

A short online interview is conducted only for IG1 after you submit your Open Book Examination. This interview takes place through Zoom or Microsoft Teams and is recorded to verify your identity and confirm that the submitted IG1 exam is your own work.
